While the fragrances of this year may not be overpowering, they are notably distinct. After swirling, the scents of ripe red plum, waxberry, and hawthorn are tastefully nuanced. As you taste it, you feel like you’re soaring through the air like a Persian prince on a velvet carpet made of delicate tannins. Der Wein ist leicht cremig im Auftakt und verfügt über bestens eingebundene, präzise und feinkörnige Tannine, die ein zuverlässiges Fundament bieten. Die vom Bouquet angekündigte Frische ist auch am Gaumen dank einer eleganten und strukturierenden Säure allgegenwärtig. Ein harmonischer Wein, der gut für die Zukunft gerüstet ist, aber auch schon in seiner Jugend genossen werden kann. 5/13/2024 Jeb Dunnuck JEB DUNNUCK (JEB DUNNUCK) : 92-94 / 100 Ripe red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, scorched earth, and a kiss of spring flowers all emerge from the 2023 Château Latour-Martillac, a pure, medium to full-bodied, elegant Pessac that has some chocolaty oak, beautiful overall balance, and ripe tannins. It stays nicely focused on the palate, with the vintage's elegant yet ripe profile. 5/6/2024 The Wine Cellar Insider THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 92-94 / 100 Smoky, black cherries, blackberries, leafy herbs, cigar wrapper, flowers, and spice fill the perfume. The wine is rich, dark, and chewy on the palate, with a touch of spice that lingers along with all of that dark red pit fruits in the mid-palate, that carry through to the finish. This should age quite nice well, yet be approachable young. The wine blends 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV, pH 3.8. Drink from 2027-2043. 92-94 Pts. 5/6/2024 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux JANE ANSON, INSIDE BORDEAUX (JANE ANSON) : 92 / 100 Grilled oak, deep ruby colour, touch of rose petals on the nose, more floral than many in the appellation, gives a pretty feel to the opening beats. This is on the fresher side of the vintage but still with ripe fruits, and a cushion of air that runs through the palate, good quality, elegant, medium term drinking, should be good to go within four or five years, just allow the architecture to soften. 40% new oak, 33hl/ha yield. 4/30/2024 Vinous VINOUS (ANTONIO GALLONI) : 90-92 / 100 The 2023 Latour-Martillac is a very promising wine. Dark red-toned fruit, gravel, incense and pressed rose petal lend notable complexity. What impresses me most about the 2023 is the quality of the tannin, something that has been penalizing at times in the past. There's a good bit of structure, but it is nicely integrated. Sweet floral and spice notes lift the finish. Terrific. Tasted two times. 4/29/2024 Vinous VINOUS (NEAL MARTIN) : 88-90 / 100 The 2023 Latour-Martillac has a more straightforward, less nuanced bouquet than some of its peers at the moment. It does not quite engage the senses as I would have hoped. The palate is medium-bodied with quite assertive tannins matched by a crisp acidity thread, though again, the finish feels a little hard and muscular. I will be prudent with my score for now. 4/29/2024 Falstaff FALSTAFF (PETER MOSER) : 91 / 100 Dark ruby, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Fresh red forest berries, a hint of cherries, subtle vanilla, some nougat. Medium body, red fruit, subtle tannins, min- eral, lightly herbal and spicy finish, an uncomplicated food wine. 4/26/2024 Wine Advocate WINE ADVOCATE (YOHAN CASTAING) : 90-92 / 100 Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 14% Petit Verdot and matured with 40% in new oak barrels, the 2023 Latour Martillac reveals aromas of dark wild berries, spices, pencil lead and mulberries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich, layered and fleshy palate that segues into a firm, long and mineral finish. The increased proportion of Petit Verdot, a response to mildew affecting the Merlot grapes, imparts a more structured and firm character than seen in previous years. 4/25/2024 Jamessuckling.com JAMESSUCKLING.COM (JAMES SUCKLING) : 93-94 / 100 The blackberry and blueberry character comes through clearly here, alongside a hint of stone. Medium-bodied with creamy and polished tannins and a savory finish. Very typical for the appellation.
