Beschreibung
94/100 Tastingbook.com Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Very elegant nose with fragrant fruit, mulberries, blackberries and hints of elderberries. Mild spices and a whiff of spicy cedar wood, subtle oak. On the palate well balanced with ripe tannins, pleasant mouthfeel rather medium bodied than full-bodied but with very good length and persistent finish. - Yves Beck 94-95/100 Jamessuckling.com This is very structured and solid with a pretty center-palate of fruit and chewy tannins. Medium- to full-bodied with cool blue fruit and mineral undertones and some stone character. Well done. Better than 2022. - James Suckling 93/100 Decanter.com Lovely floral and blackcurrant aromatics on the nose, smells open and expressive with some clear, herbal and bramble notes. Clean and direct, the mouthwatering cherry and strawberry juiciness is lovely though with a chalky base. Crystalline and pure, straight and linear, not as fleshy as some, but really well balanced. Smooth and really approachable with a lift on the finish. Missing some more flesh and weight, but there’s great coolness and lots of finesse. Tannins are fine and integrated and this carries to a long finish. Feels very cool and very classic minty Cabernet. Effortless and gently wide. A yield of 47hl/ha. 3.69pH. Ageing 30% new oak. - Bettane & Desseauve 92-94/100 Alexandre Ma The Château Belgrave of 2023 has a fresh and captivating taste that exudes vitality from start to finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon’s purity is remarkably high and it effortlessly captures the spicy aromas of licorice, cinnamon, and black pepper. The oak barrel influence is barely noticeable, adding to the tannin texture but without toasted notes. The tannins have a velvety texture, which is a highlight of the 2023 vintage, allowing Château Belgrave to showcase an unusual concentration and depth for this vintage. - Alexandre Ma 91-93/100 The Drink Business Belgrave (Haut-Médoc; 60% Cabernet Sauvignon; 40% Merlot; 13% alcohol; tasted at the UGC press tasting at the Cité du Vin and again at the Château). A little closed the first time but with a quite gracious hint of leafiness to the Cabernet fruit that comes through nicely with aeration. Sapid and juicy from the get-go with nice fluidity and evolution over the palate. Quite crystalline, not too extracted and almost sinuous as a consequence. There’s been a notable (and noted) upwards trajectory here in recent vintages. The appellation is becoming again quite competitive. - Colin Hay 91-93/100 The Wine Cellar Insider Tobacco leaves, spearmint, and black currants with background notes of licorice, and flowers create the character here. The mid-palate, and finish wrap everything up nicely with soft, polished, fresh, red berries, mint, and a dash of chocolate. Drink from 2027-2044. 91-93 Pts. - Jeff Leve 91/100 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Firm tannic structure, textured slate and rose bud adding savoury character and punch, plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit, soft through the mid palate but this is unfussy and well made. 30% new oak for ageing. - Jane Anson 91-93/100 Vinous The 2023 Belgrave is a stellar wine and one of the sleepers in this vintage. Rich and layered in the glass, with terrific persistence, the 2023 has so much to offer. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather all meld together in this wonderfully expressive, nuanced Haut-Médoc. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot with no Petit Verdot in this vintage. The 2023 is a very fine mini Saint-Julien of sorts, and I mean that in the best sense of the term. Tasted two times. - Antonio Galloni 91/100 Falstaff Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Delicate wood nuances, black forest berries, cherries, a hint of herbal savouriness underneath. Me- dium body, red cherries, appears lean and fresh, integrated tannins, a hint of nougat in the finish. - Peter Moser 90-92/100 Vinous The 2023 Belgrave has impressive fruit intensity on the nose, showing plenty of brambly black fruit laced with tobacco and cedar: classic Claret in style. I've come to expect that from this estate. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, counterbalanced by ripe blackberry fruit laced with white pepper and tobacco. There’s just the right amount of dryness on the finish to complete this excellent (often well-priced) Belgrave. - Neal Martin 89-91/100 Jeb Dunnuck A consistently terrific Haut-Médoc, the 2023 Château Belgrave is deep purple-hued and offers up some smoky oak as well as beautiful darker fruits, spice, chalky minerality, and lead pencil-like nuances. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has solid mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins, all pointing to an outstanding Haut Médoc that should have some upfront charm as well as longevity. - Jeb Dunnuck
