WINE ADVOCATE (NEAL MARTIN) : 87-89 / 100
The 2016 Chateau les Grands Chenes is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon picked from 5 to 18 October. It has a soft and rounded black cherry and red plum scented bouquet with a touch of orange blossom. The palate is sweet on the entry with grainy tannin, quite powerful, but the oak impedes a little towards the finish when other 2016s have demonstrated freshness and precision. Not bad, but this could have been better with more prudence.

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 88-90 / 100
Round and polished with loads of espresso, smoke, ripe fruits and a fleshy finish.

VINOUS (ANTONIO GALLONI) : 87-90 / 100
The 2016 Les Grands Chênes is bright, classy and super-polished, with striking energy to its red- and purplish-hued fruits. Grilled herbs, smoke, leather and iron overtones develop in the glass, adding further shades of complexity. The flavors are brisk and finely delineated in this super-expressive Médoc from Bernard Magrez. Les Grands Chênes is often one of the best values in Bordeaux, and the 2016 looks like it will continue that trend. Don't miss it.

MATTHEWJUKES.COM (MATTHEW JUKES) : 14 / 20
Rather blunt and dull, this is a completely un-inspirational wine with little commend it and a lot to mark down. 14++?

DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 90 / 100
Heavily extracted yet well made and carefully thought out. Black fruits are joined by liquorice and smoky bacon tinged oak which dominates the palate but is undeniably appealing. It could let the light in a little more but it has succulence and kerb appeal, and I tasted it several times over primeurs week and always found it enjoyable.

JANCIS ROBINSON (JANCIS ROBINSON) : 15,5 / 20
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Scented, reasonably restrained. Thick and just lacks a little bit of freshness. Drying sandy finish.

WINE ENTHUSIAST (ROGER VOSS) : 90-92 / 100
Barrel Sample. This ripe wine is full of great fruit aromas and flavors. The tannins are generous and rich, supported by rounded black-plum and -berry fruits. It should cellar well through the medium term.

This is very solid with a beautiful core of blackberry, wet-earth and walnut character. Full body and a long and flavorful finish. One of the best in a long time. Better than 2014?
